At Winston Heights Public School there are students from a variety of language backgrounds whose English language proficiency ranges from beginning English to consolidating English. These students range in ages and developmental stages from Kindergarten to Year 6. Some students are newly arrived to Australia whilst others were born in Australia.
Students are withdrawn for small group lessons with the EAL/D teacher to give them additional support to develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in order for them to become confident, purposeful learners in all Key Learning Areas. Small group lessons can be a great opportunity for students to actively participate in activities that they might find daunting in a whole class setting.
