Tournament of Minds (TOM) is a problem–solving program for teams of students in primary and secondary years. Students work together to solve a demanding, open ended long term challenge over a six week period. They have 10 minutes to present their solution to a panel of judges and audience on tournament day. The team also participates in an unseen spontaneous challenge on tournament day.
TOM is an opportunity for gifted students to display their talents in an exciting, vibrant and public way. In 2017, Winston Heights Public School sent two teams for the first time ever to Tournament Day to compete at a regional level. Both teams had worked exceptionally hard on their long term challenge in the areas of Science and Technology, Mathematics and Engineering and were ready to present their 10 minute presentation. They had also practised several different spontaneous challenges in preparation for the day. As our first ever WHPS representatives, both teams did a tremendous job and can be incredibly proud of their efforts.
